Past Progressive Tense

The Past Progressive Tense

- is used to express actions done in the past. These actions took place
continouosly within a period of time in the past.
- in here, there are two actions done. While the first action is being done, in
a split second of the second action followed.
- is formed using a linking verb + verb in the ing form.

I was taking a bath when the telephone rang.
was - linking verb
taking - progressive
rang - past tense
In this sentence, the first action took place first, and in a split second the
second action followed.
Note: The second action should always in the past tense form.

1. The dog was barking when the cat ran out the door.
2. I am waiting for you when Roger saw me.
3. They were taking the test when the principal came in.
4. My mother was cooking when the visitors arrived.
5. The rain was pouring hard when she called (her) fatther.
